altontowerstrips.com, a commercial partner of Alton Towers, have revealed that Alton Towers will be adding a new addition to the Sea Life attraction in Mutiny Bay, Sharkbait Reef.
Skeleton Bay will feature 12 giant Japanese Spider Crabs. In 2010, Sharkbait Reef was home to a small Japanese Spider Crab exhibit. The press release for the 2011 season suggests that the new exhibit will be themed for a shipwreck.
It is still not yet known where the Spider Crabs will be placed in Sharkbait Reef, or if any other displays will be removed.

Facebook Deals is a service which will allow companies to offer discounts to customers who “check in” using the Facebook application on their mobile phones. Alton Towers was among the companies announced and to kick the service off have announced a number of special offers.
In a surprise move, the park will open one day earlier than initially planned, and will instead open on Friday 18th February. Anyone who visits the park and checks in on this day will gain free entry for themselves and three friends. In addition, the first 100 people to check in on the day will also receive a free stay at one of the resort’s hotels, Splash Landings of Alton Towers hotel.

Opening up the Alton Towers theme park free of charge for people who check in on Facebook is an amazing opportunity to experience the fabulous selection of rides and attractions we have at the Resort, as well as giving us the chance to get involved in an exciting and innovative launch.”
To take advantage of the offer, customers will need to visit on Friday 18th February from 10am until 4pm and check in via the most recent version of the Facebook app or Smartphone at www.facebook.com. Click on the Deal to claim it and show your phone screen to the admissions booth located at the theme park entrance.
Alton Towers Resort unveils the mystery behind TH13TEEN
Following months of secrecy and speculation, TH13TEEN, the ultimate rollercoaster at the Alton Towers Resort has been unveiled as the world’s first free fall drop coaster. TH13TEEN takes riders on a gruelling journey through The Dark Forest, where they will battle the overwhelming force of the woods through a series of twists and turns, before plummeting into the unknown.
Having been two years in development, ground-breaking technology makes TH13TEEN every ride you could ever dream of in one. Built on an unearthed ancient burial site, riders are taken on an exhilarating adventure, experiencing adrenalin-pumping speeds, rapid reversing and terrific twists as they attempt to escape the clutches of the all-consuming forest. Never before has so much theme park technology been combined in one fantastically thrilling ride.
The 1.2 metre ride manufactured by Intamin features three trains consisting of five ride cars, each holding four people. Reaching speeds of 67 km/hr, TH13TEEN will plunge its guests from 19 metres as they dip and dive through the woods, before experiencing the world’s first free fall rollercoaster drop.
